''They don't call it Dutch Apple Cake because the apples are Dutch, but because the Dutch East India Company supplied cinnamon during the 17th century, when it had 150 trading ships at sea.''


  Dutch Apple
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Baking time: 1 hour and 20 minutes
Oven temperature: 150°C

Method:
  1. Pre-heat oven to 150°C.
  2. Cream together castor sugar, Golden Syrup and margarine.
  3. Add egg and beat until smooth.
  4. Add 1 cup of apple.
  5. In a separate bowl, sieve dry ingredients, then combine with creamed mixture adding milk and mix together.
  6. Pour into greased cake tin. Add extra apple over top.
  7. Add crumble topping and pat down gently.
  8. Bake at 150°C for 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Topping Crumble:

Rub together the following ingredients:
Coconut — ½ cup
Margarine — 1 tablespoon
Castor sugar — 1 tablespoon
Cinnamon — 1/2 teaspoon
  Ingredients:

Castor sugar — 1/3 cup
Brown sugar — 1/3 cup
Margarine — 1/3 cup
Golden Syrup — 2 tablespoons
Egg - 1 (60g)
Plain flour — 2 cups
Baking powder — 2 teaspoons
Mixed spice — 2 teaspoons
Ginger — 1 1/2 teaspoons
Nutmeg — 1 1/2 teaspoons
Tinned apple — 1 cup or 250g
Cinnamon — 3 teaspoons
Milk — 1 cup
Extra apple (for topping) — 1/3 cup
