A bit of History
A National Treasure
Beechworth is regarded as Victoria's best preserved historic gold mining town, containing a rich legacy from our last two centuries. It is home to 32 buildings listed by the National Trust including the Powder Magazine, the Beechworth Cemetery and The Beechworth Court House, where the infamous Ned Kelly stood trial.
Beechworth is reminiscent of the flamboyant gold rush era. Wide tree-lined streets and graceful buildings create a beautiful backdrop to the four seasons. The rich colours of changing leaves in autumn and the stark beauty of frosty winter mornings are contrasted by the sweetly perfumed spring gardens and balmy evenings following glorious summer days. Beechworth and its neighbouring towns are rich in history and Australian culture. The region also produces some of Australia's best food and wine, and many festivals and special celebrations are held throughout the year. With its growing numbers of local Bed & Breakfast accommodation, galleries, open gardens, eateries and wineries, Beechworth is the ideal destination whatever the time of year.
